About the manufacturer:
Salins pottery was founded in 1857 in Salins-les-Bains in the Franche-Comté region of France.
The first pottery factory was founded in 1857 by ceramists Moniotte and Granger, in the former Capucins convent. In 1858 a more suitable factory was built, which in 1862 was already in difficulties due to a lack of water power. It was bought by chemist François Bourgeois and pottery manufacturer Joseph Page.
In 1885 Page entered into partnership with Claude François Rigal of the Clairefontaine pottery in Haute-Saône. Fine pottery was improved and became comparable to porcelain. The factory, expanded by acquisitions and modernized by the installation of electricity turbines, employed 120 workers in 1889.
In 1912, Édouard Charbonnier took over and the factory, which had been destroyed by fire in 1920, gained a new reputation, which was rewarded in 1925 with a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris.
In 1936 there were 230 employees.
From 1968, Salins was part of the Faïenceries de Sarreguemines company and specialized in sanitary ware. The production of ordinary earthenware ceased in 1988 and that of more expensive items in 1998.
