Curated Tableware

Chromatics serving platter design Gerald Gulotta by Arzberg

€84,95

This unique platter bowl has a midnight blue interior (almost black) and raised brown edges. The underside is white.
The Chromatics tableware is one of the most iconic modernist designs that the German Arzberg ever produced, designed by the American Gerald Gulotta.

This rare 1970's design is called Chromatics (in the USA: Block Chromatics) and is available in different color palettes. The specific decor that Curated Tableware offers, "Graubeige", contains glazed items ranging from gray, beige, midnight blue to lilac and taupe, always in combination with white accents.

This tableware can also be found in the collections of, among others, The Smithsonian Design Museum and the Brooklyn Museum

About the manufacturer:
Arzberg was founded in 1887 in the Bavarian town of Arzberg in Germany and became famous thanks to Hermann Gretsch and his "Form 1382" from 1931: this modern design formed the basis of the Bauhaus principles and is still sold worldwide.
In 1972, Arzberg became part of Hutschenreuther AG and from 2000 it fell under SKV-Porzellan-Union GmbH (founded in 1993 by the porcelain companies Schirnding, Kronester and Johann Seltmann Vohenstrauß).
In 2003, 250 employees worked there and the head office and production moved to Schirnding. In 2004, SKV was renamed Arzberg-Porzellan GmbH.
10 years later Arzberg announced bankruptcy. While awaiting the verdict, the building remained empty for 10 years and it seemed as if time had stood still. Check out this short documentary about the abandoned factory full of unfinished tableware.
Today the trademark is owned by Rosenthal porcelain.
